56/365 Primes Rainy Day Green and the 14

This has been the 5th rainiest March on record for Utah.  We'll have to see where we finish by the end of March.

Rainy days. My sister asked me yesterday why I don't shoot indoors when it rains.  I'll have to ponder that.

Set up:

Camera: Pentax K1

Lens: Rokinon 14mm FE14 f/2.8

ISO 200  14mm  f/7.1  1/80th Hand held.

This area is just off a walking trail in South Salt Lake next to the Jordan River. Across the river is a hobo camp. The 14mm Rokinon does some fun things with landscapes. I shot this hand held about 18 inches from the groung. The Pentax K1's tilting LCD helped out a lot because I didn't want to get on the wet ground to shoot this.

46/365 Primes 14mm At A Conterence

Thursday and Friday I attended a the convention of the Utah Coalition for Educational Technology ( UCET ).  I was a presenter also so I did not have much time to get behind a lens. But I brought the camera along with me.

Camera: Pentax K1

Lens: Rokinon 14mm FE14 f/2.8

ISO 800  14mm  f/2.8  1/100th Hand held.

I shot this one in portrait orientation because it fit the room.  It was a huge ballroom at the University of Utah's student union building at lunch break.

ISO 800  14mm  f/4  1/400th Hand held.

The tall ceiling and long coridor was a nice space to use the Rokinon in portrait orientation.  I actually think this image does justice to the space.

36/365 Primes 14mm on the Farm.

So for day 36 I took the K1 and the Rokinon 14mm and my LG360 Cam out to Wheeler Farm.  I'm developing curricula for teaching teachers to use VR cameras in their classrooms. More on that later, but technically the LG360 Cam is a fixed focal length camera. :)

Camera: Pentax K1

Lens: Rokinon 14mm FE14M

ISO 400, 14mm, f/8, 1/100th Hand held.

ISO 400, 14mm, f/8, 1/200th Hand held

I was so close to these geese! 3 feet from them. They did not seem bothered by my proximity to them. But I wanted them to fill the frame but I did not dare get any closer.

ISO 6400, 14mm, f/8, 1/15th, Hand held

I decided to push the ISO a bit in this dark barn. Even so this is shot hand held at 1/15th second. t came out really better than I expected. The noise is very minimal and the in body SR system did a great job of eliminating camera shake.

Here are the rest of the images I processed from this shoot.

35/365 Primes: Pre-Spring in Murray at 14mm

14mm and the return of the long lost 24-70

I know this is a blog about shooting Primes but I am so excited for one of my babies returning to me from the hospital!

Thank you Forsters! My beloved and oft used 24-70 was having issues. Besides hunting for focus it just stopped being able to focus manually. Clunky sounds were coming from within. Diagnosis: Thing-a-mabob insi needed replacing.  Part on back order so this lens has been out of service for over 2 months.

Camera: Pentax K1

Lens 1: Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 EX DG Macro Current version here, For review look here.

Lens 2: Rokinon 14mm FE14M Review here.

Okay! First two images are from the returning prodigal 24-70. first at 24mm then at 70mm. Same subject, diferent focal length.

ISO 400, 24mm, f/2.8, 1/3200th Hald held.

IDK why f/2.8. I wasn't thinking!

ISO 400, 70mm, f/2.8, 1/1600th Hand held.

Yup...It would have been a crisper pair of images at f/8 or f/11.

Now...back to primes

ISO 400, 14mm, f/8, 1/800th Hand held.

ISO 400, 14mm, f/8, 1/400th Hand held.

I don't consider myself to be a landscape photographer but this project is pushing me and I'm having fun with it. And...I am lucky to have this beautiful park right in my back yard in Murray, Utah.  I'm ready for some green growing things.

18/365 Primes 14mm Rokinon

It got late today so I decided to photograph my familr room as it nears completion of a remodel. We don't fave it fully decorated yet.

Camera: Pentax K1

Lens: Rokinon 14mm FE14M

ISO 800 f/4 1/50th

ISO 800 f/4 1/30th

ISO 1600 f/4 1/50th

These are all hand held with only the rooms installed lighting at night. This wide lens does help the rooms look larger. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of .28 meters (about 11 inches) The photo of the fabric detail is at .28 meters.

Here is the whole 365 primes photogallery.
