57/365 Primes 77 Limited and Rachelle Krause

I photographed Rachelle Krause for her modeling portfolio.  These are a few shots done with the 77 Limited.

Camera: Pentax K1

Lens: smc Pentax-FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited

ISO 200  77mm  f/8.0  1/125th Hand held.

ISO 200  77mm  f/8.0  1/125th Hand held.

The 77 Limited gets wonderful detail at f/8 and I like it for both full body shots as well as head shots.

52/365 Primes 31 Limited Outdoor Portrait

I photographed Sarah a few months ago. Today we shot outdoors and I used the 77 Limited and the 31 Limited lenses.  I'm just posting a few from the 31 mm. Sarah and I with to an old bulding near my studio that the roof has disintegrated and has enjoyed a lot of grafitti and a few (apparantly) illicit parties.

Camera: Pentax K1

Lens: SMC Pentax FA 31mm f/1.8 Limited

ISO 400  31mm  f/1.8  1/1000th Hand held.

The 31mm lens wide open has a nice gentle bokeh. I like the way it renders.

ISO 400  31mm  f/5.0  1/50th  Hand held. Natural light.

This place is chaotic and I needed some lens blur to calm it down,  At f/5.0 I was able to get enough detail to tell the story without distracting to much from my subject.

This lot was ajacent to the ruined building.

ISO 1600  31mm  f/2.0  1/1000th Hand held.

This one came out a little soft but I love the feel of the weedy trees and the "lost" girl.  This was in the waning evening light.

29/365 Primes Studio Portrait with 31mm and 77mm Limiteds

Todays 365 Primes Project is from a studio session using the 33mm Limited and the 77 mm Limited. I also shot with the 50mm FA f/1.4 but am not including any images from that lens today.

Camera:Pentax K1 (Review Here)

Lens 1: SMC Pentax FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited (Review here)

Lens 2: SMC Pentax FA 31mm f/1.8 Limited (Review here)

Head shot of Stevie. She is trying to get started modeling.

ISO 100 77mm f/8 1/125th Camera Stand

Here is a cut in which shows how detaild this lens can be.Same as above.

I shot the image below hoping to play with compositing later this week.ISO 100 77mm f/8 1/125th Camera stand.

ISO100 77mm f/8 1/125th Camera stand.

I found the detail in her face to still be sharp and crisp even this far out.

Below is a hand held sample at f/1.8. I goofed and focused on the far eye. You can see how the areas just in front and just behind her eye quickly fall out of focus,

ISO 400 77mm f/1.8 1/40th Hand held.

Lastly, Stevie really wanted a photo in her Derek Carr Raiders jersey. I wanted to play with the 31 Limited so it came out for this set. It kind of freaks me out having to be in such close proximity to my subjects with this lens.ISO 200 31mm f/5 1/100th Camera stand.

I havent figured out this lens for shooting individuals yet. The distortion of a wide lens on a full frame sensor is new to me. I'll keep playing.

28/365 Primes: Beauty and the Pentax 77 Limited

Day 28 was in studio with just the 77 Limited and a beautiful model. She did here own make up. I shot this af f/4 which is not my normal way of doing things in studio. I usually shoot at f/8 or higher.

Camera: Pentax K1

Lens: smc Pentax-FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited

ISO 100 f/4 1/125th Mounted on camera stand.

I found the lens to be gving me exceptional clarity and at f/4 the depth of field I wanted without loosing crispness in the image to early.  Here is a tighter crop of her face detail:

Much more from this session to edit but things are looking good through the Pentax 77mm f/1.8 Limited.

Here is the lighting set up. I'm using Photogenic Power lights.
