49/365 Primes 200mm CA

Chromatic Aberation or purple fringing. I got out the door late and the sun had just dropped down below the Oquirrh mountains. I took this shot from my porch.  I got a few other shots perhaps more interesting that this one. Except that this photo tells a story on my beloved old school 200mm.

Camera: Pentax K1

Lens: smc Pentax 200mm f/2.5 K series.

Now remember...this blog is not about amazing images, although that would be ice, it is about me learning my lenses strengths and weaknesses.

ISO 800 200mm f/8? 1/320th hand held.

This is sooc. No tweaking.  The fringing is very obvious shooting into the light. So, note to self. Don't back light with this lens.

19/365 Primes 31mm DOF Test

This is a family room dof test of the 31 Limited.

Camera: Pentax K1

Lens: smc Pentax-FA 31mm f/1.8 Limited

All at ISO 1600.

f/1.8 1/125th

f/2.5 1/80

f/4 1/30th

f/5.6 1/15th

f/11 1/4th

Kind of a boring excersize but I like seeing the dof at the closest focusing distance which by the way is .3 meters or about 11 inches.

If you want to see all the pics between f/1.4 and f/11 go to The 365 Primes Project.

8/365 Primes 31 Limited Temple Quarry Trailhead

The Temple Quarry trailhead at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon is one of my favorite spots for family portraits during warmer seasons.

Camera: Pentax K1 (FF)

Lens: Pentax smcP FA 31mm f/1.8 Limited

ISO 400, f/11, 1/40th

While I would have considered this lens for close up work, it does focus rather close with a very thin DOF

ISO 400, f/1.8, 1/400th

Looking forward to working with this lens more.

7/365 Primes 200mm Antelope Island

I shot 3 primes today. My new 31mm Limited arrived. But the focus was on the 200mm f/2.5.  We went to Antelope Island State Park in Utah. Surrounded by the Great Salt Lake.

Camera: Pentax K1 (FF)

Lens: Pentax SMC f/2.5 200mm K series legacy lens. Full manual.

I can only make a guess about apertures since I didn't take notes and the lens doesn't report that info to the camera.

This is looking from the Garr ranch south east to Bountiful/Salt Lake. I think this was taken at f/5.6.  I love how dream like this photo is.

Below is my niece Desiree looking contemplative.

I think the f-stop was 4.0 here.

This one was also taken at f/4.

I find that focusing is pretty eacy with this lens. All these shots were done hand held with shake reduction on. Rendition is sharp and I feel there is an almost 3-d feel to the images it makes.
