How to be a good model

I work with a lot of models.  Some are experienced and others are newbies.  Good looks is not what it takes to be a good model, at least not for me.  Don't get me wrong, looks matter, but a model who is good at what they do in more interesting to photograph than a good looking empty slate.  A great model will create a look or collaborate with the photographer and artistic team to find a mood. Looks get stale, moods stay fresh.

Tracy didn't need to be told.  She came up with different looks and moods.  Here is one that caught my eye. because it talks straight to the viewer.

Kijana was a brand new model and this is from her very first shoot.  Her mom came along (which is always a good idea).  Kijana needed a little coaching but was very flexible and willing to follow direction.  That is a big plus for a photographer.

Brigham is an experienced model and he took me by surprise at the detail in which he thought about the creative process.  He was constructively critical of his own work and trying to make all that he did his best. He came up with lots of great ideas that we worked on together.

Lyn came to this shoot with an escort.  Escorts can be a distraction, but I feel they are a necessity for the safety of me and the model.  A good escort will stay removed from the creative process (for the most part). Lyn had tons of creative energy and her face was always alive and doing something interesting.
